Now it’s complete and released everywhere, my new album „Night Walk“. I don’t usually talk much about my music, because electronic music creates its own images in the mind. It doesn’t need many words, and that’s why I love this genre of music. But with this album it’s completely different. Its creation and the long history between 2020 and 2022, often marked by uncertainty and doubt, is closely linked to what we have all experienced. That’s why I have to share something about it.
The previous album „Home“ was released in February 2020. It was finished long before the Corona pandemic hit our planet. It was a coincidence that the title fitted so well, because from March 2020 onwards our lives took place mainly at home. „Home“ was actually about the fact that people need a safe place to feel at home – in harmony with themselves and the environment.
The largest part of the album „Night Walk“ was created in long recording and arrangement sessions in autumn 2020. The title alludes to the strong initial restrictions at that time: Please go out only in the evening and at most in pairs. Fragments of the songs had accumulated over the years, and a lot of work was still needed to integrate everything into an organic work. To make something special out of it that you’re really happy with, you have to get into a flow. And I reached that state in October 2020 during a two-week leave from my job at GIZ. I am happy to be able to work there, because the company pursues the goal of sustainable development worldwide, a future worth living for all people. I would have to lie if the many years there had not left a lasting impression on me. I learn every day that it is worthwhile to stand up for sustainability, and I put this philosophy into my songs and call it „music for a slower life“. I have four children and now also three grandchildren. I want them to have a good future on this planet. Full stop.
The album was finished at the beginning of 2021. I didn’t hear it in its entirety again until the end of November 2022, when the CDs came from MellowJet Records. It was very emotional because it made me realise how much I had put my heart and emotion into this music and the hopes that were attached to it. During that one hour, I got back into the flow of that time. I became aware of everything that had happened in between: the terrible flood in July 2021, which had also hit MellowJet’s house (you can read the whole story at www.MellowJet.de), then in 2022 the cruel Russian war of aggression in the east of our continent and again and again the fear of the next world war, the realisation that too much time has been wasted in the development of renewable energies over the last decades… In the meantime, the pursuit of sustainability – at least on paper – is at the centre of everything we do. But why do disasters always have to happen before humans learn? And why do we just carry on like this and not act? Why still this inexplicable rush? Why don’t we just slow down our lives? And perhaps the most important question of all: Why can’t we manage to distribute the wealth on our planet fairly, so that life becomes possible without endangering the sustainability of our earth? A little tip to get you started: just listen to a lot of electronic music with long pieces. If you sit still and avoid driving or flying, you will already have a small effect for yourself and for our environment.
I know that was a lot of words, but electronic music can also have a message. Music gives us hope and confidence, and that’s what I want to convey with this album.
That’s why I would like to introduce the individual songs to you a little bit over the next few days. For the illustrations, I have commissioned a little artificial helper, I’ll call her „Auntie Dalli“.

Jetzt ist es vollständig und überall veröffentlicht, mein neues Album „Night Walk“. Üblicherweise erzähle ich nicht viel über meine Musik, denn elektronische Musik erzeugt ja ganz eigene Bilder im Kopf. Da braucht es nicht viele Worte, und darum liebe ich diesen Musikzweig. Bei diesem Album ist es aber ganz anders. Seine Entstehung und die lange, oft von Ungewissheit und Zweifeln geprägte Geschichte zwischen 2020 und 2022 ist eng verknüpft mit dem, was wir alle erfahren haben. Darum muss ich dazu was mitteilen.
Das Vorgängeralbum „Home“ ist im Februar 2020 erschienen. Es war lange fertig, bevor die Corona-Pandemie über unseren Planeten kam. Es war Zufall, dass der Titel so gut passte, denn ab März 2020 spielte sich unser Leben ja vornehmlich zuhause ab. Eigentlich ging es bei „Home“ darum, dass Menschen einen sicheren Ort brauchen, um sich daheim zu fühlen – mit sich und der Umwelt in Einklang.
Der größte Teil des Albums „Night Walk“ entstand in langen Aufnahme- und Arrangement-Sessions im Herbst 2020. Der Titel spielt an auf die starken Ausgangsbeschränkungen damals: Rausgehen bitte nur am Abend und höchstens zu zweit. Fragmente der Songs hatten sich über die Jahre angehäuft, es war noch eine Menge Arbeit nötig, um alles zu einem organischen Werk zu integrieren. Um daraus etwas Spezielles zu machen, mit dem man wirklich glücklich ist, muss man in einen Flow kommen. Und diesen Zustand erreichte ich im Oktober 2020 während eines zweiwöchigen Urlaubs von meinem Job bei der GIZ. Ich bin glücklich dort arbeiten zu können, denn das Unternehmen verfolgt das Ziel nachhaltiger Entwicklung weltweit, einer lebenswerten Zukunft für alle Menschen. Ich müsste lügen, wenn die vielen Jahre dort mich nicht nachhaltig geprägt hätten. Ich lerne jeden Tag, dass es sich lohnt, sich für Nachhaltigkeit einzusetzen, und diese Philosophie setze ich in meinen Songs um und nenne es „Musik für ein langsameres Leben“. Ich habe vier Kinder und mittlerweile auch drei Enkelkinder. Ich will, dass sie eine gute Zukunft auf diesem Planeten haben. Punkt.
Das Album war Anfang 2021 fertig. Ich habe es erst Ende November 2022 wieder in Gänze gehört, als die CDs von MellowJet Records kamen. Es war sehr emotional, denn es wurde mir klar, wie sehr ich mein Herz und Gefühl in diese Musik gelegt hatte und welche Hoffnungen damit verbunden sind. Während dieser einen Stunde kam ich zurück in den Flow von damals. Mir wurde bewusst, was zwischendurch alles passiert war: die schreckliche Flut im Juli 2021, die auch das Haus von MellowJet getroffen hatte (die ganze Geschichte dazu findet ihr bei www.MellowJet.de), dann 2022 der grausame russische Angriffskrieg im Osten unseres Kontinents und immer wieder die Angst vor dem nächsten Weltkrieg, die Erkenntnis, dass beim Ausbau erneuerbarer Energien die letzten Jahrzehnte zu viel Zeit verplempert wurde… Inzwischen steht das Streben nach Nachhaltigkeit – zumindest auf dem Papier – im Zentrum allen Handelns. Aber warum müssen immer Katastrophen geschehen, bevor der Mensch lernt? Und warum machen wir einfach so weiter und handeln nicht? Warum immer noch diese unerklärliche Hetzerei? Warum verlangsamen wir unser Leben nicht einfach? Und die vielleicht wichtigste Frage von allen: Warum schaffen wir es nicht, den Wohlstand auf unserem Planeten gerecht zu verteilen, damit ein Leben möglich wird, ohne die Tragfähigkeit unserer Erde zu gefährden? Ein kleiner Tipp für den Anfang: Hört einfach viel elektronische Musik mit langen Stücken. Wenn ihr dabei still sitzt und eine Autofahrt oder einen Flug vermeidet, habt ihr schon einen kleinen Effekt für euch selbst und für unsere Umwelt.
Ich weiß, das war jetzt viel Text, aber elektronische Musik kann auch eine Botschaft haben. Musik gibt uns Hoffnung und Zuversicht, und das möchte ich mit diesem Album vermitteln.
Deshalb möchte ich euch die einzelnen Songs in den nächsten Tagen ein wenig vorstellen. Zur Illustration habe ich ein kleines künstliches Helferlein beauftragt, ich nenne sie mal „Tante Dalli“.
